When was the last time you rested? I mean really rested and did nothing but just simply “be”?
The narratives surrounding Black women can often perpetuate the view of the strong Black women always working, hustling, running more than one job, studying, caring for others and often putting herself last.
I am fast learning that with practice , rest is an art form in itself….
As a Black woman with ancestry rooted in over 250 years of shackled slavery where work was unpaid on the plantations, it is in my blood to always be hustling, working busy busy busy…👑
And so as a Black woman consciously choosing to simply “be”, I know that not only am I giving myself permission to rest, but also enabling my ancestoral lineage to rest at the same time.
I rest in their honour as well as my own.👑
Rest is my liberation.👑
….[Caring for myself is not self indulgence it is self preservation and that is an act of political warfare]…
